How Our Calculations Work
Every calculator uses standard, well-established business and financial formulas. For example, our Profit Margin Calculator uses the formula (Selling Price − Cost) ÷ Selling Price × 100, while our Break-Even Calculator divides fixed costs by the contribution margin per unit. These are the same formulas taught in business courses and used by accountants worldwide.
Tax-related calculators (such as Payroll Cost and Hourly Rate) use rates published by HMRC for the current tax year. We update these rates whenever HMRC announces changes, and all financial data was last verified in February 2026 for the 2025/26 tax year.
